LOCAL AREA AND ACTIVITIES
Oakford is a perfect base for a wide range of activities, from following the Dylan Thomas trail to sailing in Cardigan Bay. Here are a few ideas to help plan your holiday...
Scenic and Cultural
  • Oakford is a beautiful quiet village off the main road. The surrounding lanes are perfect for cycling and walking with children.

  • The superb coastline of Ceredigion boasts a rich and varied landscape of glorious sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, tiny coves and rocky pools. Part of the coastline is designated as Heritage Coast. The coastal path provides an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife, with spectacular views across Cardigan Bay. Dotted along the coast are attractive coastal towns and villages. There are beautiful coves and beaches at Mwnt, Aberporth, Tresaith, Llangrannog and Borth.

  • Oakford is 4 miles from the harbour town of New Quay, with its variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. New Quay has a Heritage Centre and Wildlife Centre. The town and its people inspired Dylan Thomas to write ‘Under Milk Wood’. Boat trips can be taken from New Quay and dolphins, seals and other marine life can be regularly spotted. New Quay has three sandy beaches which are safe for bathing.

  • The harbour town of Aberaeron (3 miles) is a perfect example of Regency and Georgian architecture with houses painted in dolly mixture colours.

  • Llanarth Pottery (1 mile), where you can watch the potter at work, have a go at throwing your own pot and children can try hand-building pots and painting pots.
